This smoothie is jampacked with a HUGE amount of green goodness! As you down it you can feel your energy levels increasing, your blood sugar levels stabilising and your mind getting clearer. Such is the power of green food.

I enjoy a green smoothie at any time of the day but especially at breakfast time. I find it cleansing yet energising. At this time I need to be springboarded into my day. The instant energy I receive gets me through the difficult morning routine of getting everyone dressed, fed and prepared for the day. This can get a little stressful at times and I really do require a BOOST to get going! I’m a much calmer, nicer person, when I’ve had my morning smoothie.

For this smoothie, I experimented by throwing as many green things into the mix as I could find. The obvious choices are celery & cucumber for cleansing, avocado for healthy fats and spinach & kale for immune boosting antioxidants. Of course you need a little sweetness in there so green apples & frozen banana tick the yummy box.

I also add a handful of almonds for protein. I find that adding nuts to my smoothies keeps me fuller for longer. Almonds are the best choice as they are the only nuts that leave an alkaline residue on your blood stream. This is vital for calming inflammation. Disease cannot thrive in an alkaline environment.

You don’t necessarily need to stick to my recipe. Experiment with other green foods and veggie ingredients that you enjoy.

I usually juice the apples, celery and cucumber using my juice extractor. Then I add the raw juice to the other ingredients in my blender (Magimix – which I still love). However, if you have a nutribullet or vitamix, you won’t need to extract any juice as high speed blenders will do the job pretty brilliantly. You may need to add some water to thin it out a bit.

If you take BarleyLife, which I highly recommend you do (it’s my most important supplement), you can also add 2 heaped teaspoons to your smoothie to make it extra nutritious. This will help your body to work more efficiently and increase healing and reconstruction. So, let’s get down to the green nitty gritty.

Green Cleanse Smoothie

Ready in: 10 min

Serves 1-2

2 handfuls baby spinach leaves (organic is best)

1 handful kale

1 banana (frozen is best)

1 handful raw almonds

1/2 avocado

1/4 cucumber

1 stick celery

2 green apples (any you have will do)

Juice the cucumber, celery and apples and add them to the other ingredients in your blender.

Blend until a smooth, juicy consistency is reached. This may take a few minutes if you don’t have a very powerful blender.

As mentioned above, if you have a high speed blender, you don’t need to extract any raw juice. Just add all the ingredients to your blender with as much water as you need to achieve the consistency you want.

I would love to hear what you think of this smoothie and how it makes you feel!
